Atlanta Steeplechase Sets New Date for 2011

“Best Lawn Party in Georgia” to be held April 16
The excitement returns April 16, 2011 with the 46th annual Atlanta Steeplechase – featuring an earlier event date. Preparations are already underway for Georgia’s world class racing event and the social event of the spring season!

“Having flexibility with our date gives us the room we need to increase attendance and sponsorship opportunities at this great and growing event,” said Atlanta Steeplechase Board Chairman Hal Barry. "Our track is in the finest condition it's ever been in and by moving the race date up a few weeks we can ensure that the best horses in the country will come to the Atlanta Steeplechase."

An action-packed day of fun for race fans, families and businesses, Atlanta Steeplechase returns with crowd favorites and the thrill of horse racing at its best.

“We are really excited about moving the Steeplechase up a few weeks,” said Atlanta Steeplechase Marketing and Sales Director India Watson. “We made sure that we do not conflict with Spring Break, Easter or the Masters, so Atlanta needs to plan early to spend the 16th of April at the Best Lawn Party in Georgia!”

Back once again will be beloved traditions, including the Ladies Hat Contest, Jack Russell Terrier Races and, of course, tailgating fun. There are also some exciting surprises in store for the 2011 event, which benefits the Starlight Children’s Foundation and The University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

The annual Atlanta Steeplechase is held at Kingston Downs on 400 acres of beautiful countryside situated along the banks of the Etowah River. Each year some 25,000 people spend the day the old fashioned way socializing with friends, eating barbecue, drinking ice cold beverages and cheering on their favorite horses as they gallop down the back stretch.

The day is filled with family-fun activities, including hat contests, tent contests, a foxhound parade, skydivers, children’s activities, terrier races, Frisbee dogs, shopping, people watching and so much more!

Also new are two amateur races including a Pony Pace for riders 12 and under and Junior Jockeys – for 12-18 year old equestrians.

Preparations for the 2012 Atlanta Steeplechase are also in the works. The race date for the 2012 Atlanta Steeplechase has been set for April 14.

For more information about the Atlanta Steeplechase – please call 404-237-7436 or go to www.atlantasteeplechase.org.
