Halfway through Summer Break but Fun is Full Speed Ahead at Fernbank

Fernbank Museum of Natural History is almost halfway through its summer-long 97 Days (and Ways) to Play series, and there are still more than seven weeks of fun to be had. Next up—a Bug Out Festival on Sunday, July 18 from noon to 3:30 p.m.

Join Fernbank for a variety of games, treats and bug-themed activities during the Bug Out Festival, which is inspired by the IMAX® film Bugs! A Rainforest Adventure, now showing through September 30, 2010.

Scheduled Activities Include:

Entomology Lab
Noon to 4 p.m., the Naturalist Center
Learn more about insects and other invertebrates through a variety of hands-on activities.

Radio Disney Street Team
12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Great Hall
Enjoy music, games and prizes with our friends from Radio Disney AM 590.

UGA Insect Zoo
12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Great Hall

Hands-on learning with live and preserved insects, scorpions, spiders and more.

Insect Encounters
12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Great Hall
Take an up-close look at insects and other invertebrates with a Fernbank educator.

Bunch o’ Bugs Counting Contest
12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Great Hall
How many bugs does our special container hold? Guess correctly and you might win a great prize.

Spider Web Toss Game and Coloring Corner
12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Great Hall
Try your bug tossing skills and see if you can make it through the web.

Free Ice Cream, courtesy of Bruster’s Real Ice Cream
12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Great Hall (Line closes at 3 p.m.)
Chill out with free ice cream provided by Bruster’s Real Ice Cream (Toco Hills and Decatur locations). While supplies last.

BUZZ Photo Opportunities
1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Museum-wide
Meet BUZZ, Georgia Tech’s iconic mascot. Don’t forget your cameras!

All Bug Out Festival activities are included with Museum admission and are free for Museum Members. (IMAX® films require a separate ticket.) Museum ticket prices are $13-$15 or free for Museum Members. Value Pass admission, which includes both Museum and IMAX admission are $19-$23 or $8 for Museum Members. Children ages 2 and younger receive free admission on a space-available basis.

Mark your calendars for other upcoming 97 Days (and Ways) to Play events, including more Bug Out Festivals on August 14, August 29 and September 4, Show & Tail Weekends on Saturday, July 24 and Sunday, July 25, and the Dinosaur Birthday Bash on August 21. Game Day Wednesdays feature a variety of games every Wednesday through August 18. A free hotdog is offered with Museum admission every Wednesday through August 25.
