For 27 years, hunters from all over the state have marked the Georgia Wildlife Federation’s Atlanta Buckarama as the unofficial beginning of deer season.

“This is an opportunity for sportsmen and women to get together with each other for a good time and fellowship with something for the whole family,” said Sam Stowe, Sportsman’s Program Manager for the Georgia Wildlife Federation.

One of the top shows in the nation, the Buckarama features products from hundreds of vendors across the globe, highlighting the latest in hunting, fishing and outdoor sporting products. This year, CVA Muzzleloaders continues their 20-year partnership in sponsoring the Buckarama and GLOCK has signed on as the official handgun of the show.

More than 20,000 sportsmen and women are expected to attend this year’s show, which will be held Aug. 5-7 at the Atlanta Expo Center North. The Perry Buckarama will be held Aug. 19-21 at the Georgia National Fairgrounds.

As always, the show will feature a number of activities for children, as well as guest appearances and seminars. This year, former Atlanta Braves catcher Charlie O’brien will be a featured guest. O’brien, also an avid hunter, will conduct a seminar along with Todd Wofford of Charlie O’ Products. Nashville Star season 2 winner Brad Cotter will be on hand to meet and greet visitors. Other seminars include Jason Clark’s snake show, the Georgia Falconry Association, and Field Trial Retrievers with Roy Coffee.

The Georgia Wildlife Federation also hosts The Buckarama Deer Head Competition, encouraging contestants to bring their deer head in to compete for the $1,000 grand prize. The heads will be displayed and judged throughout the weekend and certificates will be awarded on Sunday. There are many “Best of” categories as well, including for youth and ladies. Both the Perry and Atlanta Buckaramas are presented by The Georgia Wildlife Federation, the state’s oldest member-supported conservation organization and the state affiliate of the National Wildlife Federation. Since 1936, the Federation’s work in politics, environmental education and sportsmen and women’s issues has shaped every aspect of Georgia’s diverse environmental landscape and give them a strong reputation for conservation success.Georgia Front Page.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18248749393644673382noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-481653607139225157.post-82799051577937347722011-04-09T12:48:00.002-04:002011-04-09T12:48:19.239-04:00Meet the Cast of Disney's PROMDe’Vaughn Nixon and Kylie Bunbury will sign autographs at Macy’s at Lenox Square
About the Carnegie

Carnegie is one of the most historically significant structures in downtown Newnan and was built in 1904. The building served as a library until 1987 when a new facility was constructed on Hospital Road. With its iconic lighted sign that states the ‘City of Homes’ on top of the building, citizens recognize the Carnegie when they drive through historic downtown.

The Carnegie was funded by the city of Newnan’s General Fund and partly by 2007 Special Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). The Carnegie’s cost to be renovated was over $1.5 million dollars to the city. Beauty and the Beast Returns to the Center for Puppetry Arts¡Saludos! Center for Puppetry Arts brings back its popular modern adaptation of the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast, artfully presented in a bilingual blend of Spanish and English. Artistic Director Jon Ludwig’s interpretation has the same spunk and sass from years past, full of toe-tapping music, lots of laughs, and a poignant message.

The Center’s distinctive production takes place in an urban environment where Beauty and her mother run a beauty salon, owned by the tyrannical Doña Arruga. During a business deal gone awry, Beauty’s mother stumbles upon the Beast’s “lair”, a fantasy forest in the midst of the city. Obeying the Beast’s demands, Beauty goes to him in return for her mother’s safety. Although afraid of the creature she expects to find, Beauty realizes that beneath the Beast’s shaggy exterior, there is a loveable and lonely friend.

Representing the urban world in which they live, mops, rakes, pipes, wrenches and other “found” objects, make up the cast of characters. Innocent Beauty, fiery Mama, power-hungry Doña Arruga, and the surprisingly sweet Beast embody their most identifiable characteristics from the objects of which they are made. For those who have always wanted to see a cat boogie, a book rap, and two mops fall in love, entonces this is the perfect show!

Born David Adkins on November 18, 1956, in Benton Harbor, MI, the energetic youngster spent much of his youth entertaining his three brothers and two sisters and refining his unique sense of humor. A passion for basketball and the Harlem Globetrotters won the red-haired youth (affectionately christened "Red" Chamberlain by his teammates) a basketball scholarship to the University of Denver, but a knee injury later sidelined his professional sports aspirations. Turning back to his humorous instincts, Sinbad hit the road for his "Poverty Tour," working the comedy circuits while taking the Greyhound from city to city and living hand-to-mouth. Adapting the moniker of a legend that embodied the spirit of strength, adventure, and optimism symbolized all that the hardworking comedian aspired to be. Putting his faith in God and his ability to make others laugh paid off, and following seven appearances on Star Search the now-established Sinbad was given his television break by comedy legend Redd Foxx. Playing Foxx's son on The New Redd Foxx show in the mid-'80s found the aspiring actor expanding his talents, and though the show didn't last long, it did bring said talents to the attention of yet another comedy legend, Bill Cosby. Following a few other television appearances, Sinbad joined the cast of Cosby Show spin-off A Different World in 1987. Concurrently serving as host for It's Showtime at the Apollo continued his career momentum on the right track, and before long he had developed his own television show, Sinbad and Friends All the Way Live...Almost.

On the world of the silver screen, Sinbad made an appropriate debut as a standup comedian in 1989 with That's Adequate. Following with notably funny bone-tickling minor roles in Necessary Roughness (1991) and Coneheads (1993), he took the lead for 1995's Houseguest and has since turned up memorably alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in Jingle All the Way and with James Coburn and Burt Reynolds in the made-for-television film The Cherokee Kid (both 1996), all the while making frequent appearances in standup cable specials and continuing to tour tirelessly. The 2000's would find him appearing on shows like Resurrection Blvd. and Slacker Cats, as well as in films like Stompin' and Leila.

In addition to his constant efforts to bring laughter to the masses, Sinbad has dedicated his free time and personal efforts to such causes as the Children's Defense Fund and the Omega Boys Club. Sinbad also made his bid to increase AIDS awareness with his involvement in the Time Out: The Truth About HIV, AIDS and You video in 1992. His intense dedication to family is evident in his hiring of his brothers and sisters to assist him in his numerous endeavors.
Check out http://conted.clayton.edu/. That’s the website for Clayton State University’s Center for Continuing Education, which is holding three special events for the Valentine’s Day weekend. All three programs will be held in the Harry S. Downs Center on the main campus in Morrow, Ga.

Starting on Friday, Feb. 11, there’s the Valentine Murder Mystery Dinner from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. It’s an evening that begins with a murder, (well, not really, but you get the idea) only to climax with clues and a dinner buffet. The menu (for dinner, not the murder) includes; grilled chicken breast with fruit salsa garlic and rosemary roasted potatoes, vegetable medley, fresh mixed greens salad with raspberry vinaigrette on the side, bread and butter, and assorted desserts. The cost is $39 per person.

Then on Sunday, Feb. 13, you can choose between Massage for Couples (1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and Romantic Cupcakes and Cookies (2 p.m. to 5 p.m.)

If you want to learn how to give a full body massage to that massage "buddy" and not tire out after five minutes, Massage for Couples is for both of you. This class teaches some basic essentials of Swedish massage wherein partners will practice massage techniques on each other. However, as you might guess, registration is for couples only. As you also might guess, there aren’t many openings – spots are still available for just three more couples.

Each student should wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes and a swimming suit underneath. Each couple should bring two fluffy pillows with pillow cases, two twin flat sheets, a large floor blanket and their favorite lotion for massage. The cost is $49 per couple.

For those who don’t make it for the massage class, there are still cupcakes and cookies. Since filled cupcakes are all the rage in bakeries these days, you’ll learn the proper tools you will need to make them, practice the tricks for filling, and share some great recipes. Here’s a chance to learn how to embellish cupcakes and cookies with trendy damask, paisley and toile designs in butter cream, royal and fondant. You’ll also learn how to package your creations professionally with wraps, ties and stickers. The cost for this class is $35 per person.

For more information, or to register, you can also call the Center for Continuing Education at (678) 466-5050 or email ce@clayton.edu.Georgia Front Page.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18248749393644673382noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-481653607139225157.post-52890844715741653702011-01-18T22:19:00.000-05:002011-01-18T22:19:28.687-05:00NBC's AMERICA'S GOT TALENT is coming to ATLANTA...and they want to see YOUR Talent!!!
DRUMLine Live, the show-stopping attraction created by the music team behind 20th Century Fox's hit movie Drumline, will parade onto the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre stage on January 24th at 8 p.m. The show’s original January 12th performance has been cancelled due to inclement weather and icy road conditions throughout metropolitan Atlanta

------------------------------------ MORE INFO -------------------------------------

Complete with dazzling choreography and explosive percussion, DRUMLine Live is a thrilling spectacle
that pays homage to the show-style marching popularized at historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). With riveting rhythms, bold beats and ear-grabbing energy, the staged show is a synchronized musical showcase of the HBCU experience.

“We’ve taken the excitement of an HBCU football game halftime show, increased the intensity by a thousand watts, and created a musical journey that will touch every emotion,” says Don P. Roberts, DRUMLine Live’s creator and director. “DRUMLine Live is a high-octane musical roller coaster ride that will keep the entire family cheering for more.”

The legendary HBCU band experience comes alive with DRUMLine Live’s world-class cast of percussionists, musicians and dancers. The 39-member cast of performers, many originally from the metropolitan Atlanta area, honed its unrivaled talent with years of training in marching band programs across the United States such as Clark Atlanta, University of Georgia, Tennessee State, and Florida A&M University, just to name a few.

Incorporating original compositions and soul-infused interpretations of top 40 hits, DRUMLine’s musical journey infuses colorful, choreographed routines with vibrant costumes and heavy doses of drum riffs and cadences. Audiences across the globe have been brought to their feet by the stirring sound of trumpets and incredible feats of athleticism; and have been astonished by the precision, creativity, and pulsing force in the climatic percussion battle. With musical highlights from hip-hop, American soul, gospel, jazz and other music genres, DRUMLine Live brings a unique style of drumming, mesmerizing musicianship, and lively choreography never seen on stage before.

Roberts was inspired to create DRUMLine Live after serving as executive band consultant for the 2002 movie Drumline starring Nick Cannon. Filmed in Atlanta, Drumline was one of the first major motion pictures to capture the electricity of the black college marching band experience. Atlanta serves as the headquarters for DRUMLine Live, which kicked off its second U.S. tour in October 2010. The show had a successful 70-performance international tour in 2008-2009 with sold-out shows throughout Asia.

"For those who live in the Atlanta area who attended HBCUs, and for those who have never had a chance to catch black college football games, the energy and the talent in DRUMLine Live are simply going to blow you away."

DRUMLine Live is co-produced by Halftime Live, LLC, and Columbia Artists Management, Inc (CAMI). CAMI is an internationally producer of live entertainment including many award winning Broadway and Off-Broadway productions. DRUMLine Live’s Atlanta show will be followed by 30 performance dates across the country including West Palm Beach (1/17), Detroit (2/11), Pittsburgh (2/15), Baltimore (2/19), and Charlotte (2/24).

Tickets for DRUMLine Live at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased online at www.cobbenergycentre.com or through Ticketmaster.com, at any Ticketmaster outlet, and in person at the Cobb Energy Centre box office located at 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway, Atlanta 30339.
Chanukah has come and gone, but Atlanta gets to celebrate a little longer with the release of The Holiday Ice Spectacular’s “If Santa Claus Was Jewish.” This never-before-heard holiday song was written by Atlanta native Jeb Rand exclusively for the holiday revue, running December 16-24 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center.

Picture Mel Brooks, Joan Rivers and Adam Sandler sitting with a bottle of Manischewitz and you’ve got the creative inspiration to the number, which according to Mr. Sandler himself, is one “the audiences will love and have a lot of fun with too.” Sandler recently previewed the song for possible use in future projects and after hearing it, declared it to be one of the funniest things he had heard in years.

The Pink Pig is an Atlanta tradition that is more than 50 years old. From its 1953 debut as a children’s ride at the downtown Rich’s store, to its brief stint at the Egleston Children’s Hospital Festival of Trees, five generations of Atlantans have ridden the Pink Pig into the holiday season!

Priscilla – the original Pink Pig – began as a monorail along the ceiling of Rich’s, giving children the experience of “flying over” the toy department. Later, another pig – Percival – was added and they became known as the Pink Pig monorail twins. Years later, the monorail was relocated to the roof of the department store and the “monorail twins” took passengers on rooftop rides viewing downtown Atlanta and circling the Great Tree.

In 2003, Priscilla, the Pink Pig was re-introduced to a new generation of Atlantans. Since then, she has been back on track underneath a giant Pink Pig Tent at the Lenox Square Mall upper-level parking deck near Macy’s. Atlanta’s most “pink-tacular” train ride travels along train tracks to carry children and parents through a life-sized storybook that includes the original Pink Pig and other holiday friends. Once again, a portion of the proceeds from each ride will benefit the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. To date, Macy’s has donated more than $335,000 to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta
Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, a not-for-profit organization, is committed to enhancing the lives of children through excellence in patient care, research and education. Managing more than half a million patient visits annually at three hospitals and 16 neighborhood locations, Children’s is one of the largest clinical care providers for children in the country. Henry, a charming, yet mischievous elf has decided (against orders) to let the audience experience the wonder of the North Pole. He and his wife will keep you roaring in your seats with their adult-friendly comic relief peppered throughout the show. You’ll see everything from a Hannukah celebration to an intricate line dance performed on skates. Humorous vignettes, a 12-minute bite of The Nutcracker and flawless skating filled with awe-inspiring catches and gravity-defying leaps will keep you entranced throughout the entire production.
“It’s exciting to be back home in Atlanta producing The Holiday Ice Spectacular during the most festive and reflective time of year,” says Jeb K. Rand, creator of The Holiday Ice Spectacular. “It was our goal to create a holiday revue that will redefine year-end traditions for years to come, and I believe our audiences will agree that we’ve done just that.”
Developed by Rand Family Entertainment, The Holiday Ice Spectacular is produced and directed by Cobb County native Jeb K. Rand, whose entertainment career began when he was just a small child with a passion for skating. A former nationally-ranked U.S. pairs figure skater, Jeb’s professional skating career spanned over a decade and included principal roles with Ice Capades, Disney on Ice, and Stars on Ice – Italian Tour. He and his wife and skating partner, Jen, were also featured in Radio City Music Hall’s Christmas Spectacular from 1998 through 2005. His love for creating magical stories and shows that transform the stage provides the perfect segue into his current creative role as the President and Executive Producer of Rand Enterprises & Productions Inc., where he now serves as the creative force behind productions taking place around the world.
