NCM Fathom and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment Bring Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Award-Winning Musical Classic to Nearly 500 Select Movie Theaters for Magical Two-Night Event this October

For the first time since 1973, “The Sound of Music” twirls back into theaters nationwide in stunning high definition to commemorate the beloved musical’s 45th anniversary. This special event will be presented in nearly 500 select movie theaters for a two-night-only engagement on Tuesday, October 19 and Tuesday, October 26 at 6:30 p.m. local time. The Sound of Music Sing-Along Event includes the sing-along version of the fully restored feature with classic songs that have delighted fans for decades, such as “Do-Re-Mi,” “My Favorite Things,” “The Sound of Music,” “Edelweiss,” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain.”

Presented by NCM Fathom, Rodgers & Hammerstein: An Imagem Company and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, in association with Sony Music Entertainment, Trapp Family Lodge, South Pacific Tour and Austrian Tourism, The Sound of Music Sing-Along Event will also include the exclusive “I’ll Sing Once More: The Sound of Music Today” featurette. Audiences will be whisked back to Salzburg for a travelogue where the classic was filmed, and be treated to contemporary and surprising tributes ranging from modern dance and rock band salutes to an all-marionette version.

"’The Sound of Music’ shines in every medium," says Ted Chapin, president of Rodgers & Hammerstein: An Imagem Company. "The new restoration by the ace team at Fox means that the version audiences see in movie theaters in October will make this classic film look – and sound – brand new. I can't wait to see it back on the big screen again – and again."

Adored by fans the world over, and the winner of five Academy Awards® including Best Picture, The Sound of Music is the most popular movie musical of all time. Directed by Robert Wise, starring the inimitable Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, it is that rare and perfect combination of story (based on fact), songs and setting, filmed in the breathtaking Austrian Alps and fairy tale city of Salzburg. With a score by Rodgers & Hammerstein, based on their award-winning Broadway musical, The Sound of Music itself is inspired by the true-life story of Maria von Trapp and the Trapp Family Singers.

“’The Sound of Music’ is a timeless American classic that has been enjoyed by generations but not seen in theaters for over 40 years,” said Dan Diamond, vice president of NCM Fathom. “The hills will come alive once again in movie theaters in this magical sing-along event that will re-unite many of the original cast in this must-see family experience.”

The Sound of Music Sing-Along Event will appear in 498 select U.S. movie theaters, including AMC Entertainment Inc., Celebration! Cinema, Cinemark Holdings, Inc., Clearview Cinemas, Cobb Theatres, Goodrich Quality Theatres, Hollywood Theaters, Kerasotes Showplace Theatres, Malco Theatres, National Amusements, Rave Motion Pictures, R/C Theatres and Regal Entertainment Group movie theaters, as well as Arlington Theatre (Santa Barbara, CA), The Carolina (Asheville, NC), The Beacon Cinema (Pittsfield, MA), The Majestic 10 (Williston, VT) and Penn Cinema (Lititz, PA).
